I see dyslexia as an asset.

 What is the Dyslexia Advantage?

These children are wonderful artists, 3D builders, the family historian.

They have learned early to persevere and they get the job done.  They are the one in the room that you want to talk to and hang out with.

I appreciate these kids and spend my first couple sessions letting them know that.  They are GIFTED and need to know it.  I break down the anxieties around reading and spelling, while boosting their confidence in their own skills.

Scientifically based research has shown that there are five essential components for teaching young children how to read: phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary development, reading fluency and comprehension.  Through Orton-Gillingham based programs, and the study of the English language, I integrate these critical skills.  Reading and handwriting are also crucial parts of my sessions.  My approach is explicit and intense, while balanced with multi-sensory activities that stimulate the visual, auditory and kinaesthetic parts of the brain.

I keep it positive, safe and supportive. I want kids to find success within themselves and carry that through their educational career.

Reading is the foundation of learning and when a child is struggling with a language-based disability,
helping them as soon as possible is critical.
